I want to keep this brief, as it’s just over an hour into 2024 in my timezone, and so time to get some sleep.
I hope we can all take a step back from dismissing others through labels and categories. So often I see this reductive and dismissive tendency in social media. “As a liberal…” “As a conservative…” “As an atheist…” “As a Christian…” As if any human being can be understood, or even accurately evaluated, through a single word.
I don’t think things can improve in out political culture as long as people are eager to apply labels, and then abruptly consign others to a “one of us” or “one of them” bucket based on a label.
We have to have the patience, generosity, and courage to reach out with real compassion. I will try.
